Regional Banks: Prepare for Liftoff

Alexander "Zander" Yokum, CFA, VP of Equity Research

Summary

Regional bank earnings are expected to rebound by over 10% in 2025 due to falling interest rates, with PNC leading the improvement in net interest income. Since 2023, regional banks have become less risky thanks to higher capital levels, reduced uninsured deposits, and decreased commercial real estate loan exposure. Regulatory changes are likely to benefit banks like FITB, FCNC.A, HBAN, MTB, and RF, allowing for more buybacks and a higher return on equity.
